Daily Devotional: Connect 40 – Day 11 – Called to Freedom

For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. – Galatians 5:13 (NASB)

Today’s Thought

The freedom American citizens experience today came by way of the sacrifices of men and women who were willing to endure hardship and suffering for others to live a better quality of life. The ability to worship freely, exercise the right to vote, and have access to education all came with a price someone else was willing to pay – even if it meant they were ready to lay down their life for that cause. It is only right to honor their sacrifice.

Freedom brings with it a responsibility to honor the price paid for it. Jesus was willing to come to Earth, live a life free of sin, and die by way of the cross to display God’s love to all. Out of honor, we should live our life in a way that puts away our selfish ambition and through service, love one another.

Connect to God

In your prayer time today, ask the Lord to examine your heart and reveal if there are any areas of selfish ambition. The antidote to selfishness is service. Trust in the Holy Spirit to create and cultivate a servant’s heart within you.

Daily Devotional: Connect 40 – Day 10 – Freedom From Fear

And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” – Exodus 14:13-14 (NKJV)

Today’s Thought

For hundreds of years, the only thing the Israelites knew was slavery and bondage. God ‘s promise to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians was accomplished, and He set His people free. While traveling to their Promised Land, the pursuit by the Egyptian army brought about the fear of enslavement again. The Egyptians were unsuccessful in their attempt because God delivered His people.

The moment you accepted Jesus into your life, you were no longer a slave to sin. You have the authority to walk in total freedom in every area of your life. Don’t allow fear to dominate your thoughts. You are free to be all that God has destined you to be!

Connect to God

Surrender your past failures and thoughts of inadequacy to the Lord. Trust in God and allow His Grace to fight all of your battles.

Daily Devotional: Connect 40 – Day 9 – True Freedom is in Christ

Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. – 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (NKJV)

Today’s Thought

When you look in a mirror, what do you see? Of course, you see yourself. But God does not want you to only see yourself in the light of your natural circumstances. You may be sick, weak, worried, or depressed; yet God wants you to see yourself the way He sees you – healed, strong, favored, and whole because Christ is in you. Purpose to focus on God’s Presence, not your problems.

Connect to God

Let your confession today be: God, You are in me, for me, and with me. Who or What can stand against me?

Daily Devotional: Connect 40 – Day 8 – Let Freedom Reign

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. – Galatians 5:1 (NKJV)

Today’s Thought

True freedom is only found in Christ. It is through receiving Jesus, your identity is changed from being a slave of sin to a child of God. As His child, you are “born again” with the same rights and privileges as Jesus. True Freedom in Christ is about living free from your past, lack, sickness, disease or any other opposing force that tries to suggest living life lower than you were created to walk in. It’s what Christ has done that made you free and your response to what Christ has done that keeps you free.

Connect to God

Replace thoughts of doubt, inadequacy, and fear with Scriptures that talk about what Christ has already provided for you.

Daily Devotional: Connect 40 – Day 7 – Transformed by His Promise

By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. – 2 Peter 1:4 (NKJV)

Today’s Thought

Our Father desires for us to reflect His character. Have you ever taken the time to look into a mirror or into a puddle of water? Your reflection is such a beautiful sight to behold. There is a vast difference between looking and being. When you look at something, the purpose is to admire. However, to become requires more of your focus and attention. It requires you to embody the very nature of that you behold. God desires your life to reflect Him! You are called to be His hands and feet in the earth, displaying His Glory and His power to all those you encounter.

Connect to God

What is something that you can do to reflect God in your surrounding environments? In prayer, let God gently lead and guide you into all that He has called you to be.

Daily Devotional: Connect 40 – Day 6 – The Promise of Peace

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. – John 14:27 (NKJV)

Today’s Thought

Peace is not the absence of problems, but it’s the confident assurance of the Presence of God with you in the midst of problems. God has freely given you His peace as His Promise to you. There will be times when issues arise within family, on the job, or with relationships. Refocus your thoughts on the Word of God instead of your problems and exchange thoughts of worry and fear for His strength and peace. Allow God to comfort your heart and remind you that everything will work out for your good. You have a greater source to depend on in times of trouble, grief, and chaos. Utilize this promise daily, and determine to not allow any outside circumstance to rob you of your peace.

Connect to God

Prepare and plan to remain at peace during trials. God has given you the ability to remain calm in troubled times, and you must be willing to not only hear, but also obey what God is saying to you. In your quiet time, take all of your concerns and cast them to God in prayer.

Daily Devotional: Connect 40 – Day 5 – The Healthy Soul

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.- 3 John 1:2 (NKJV)

Today’s Thought

A healthy soul (mind, will, and emotions) is the foundation to a successful life. It is no wonder the Bible places such a huge emphasis on guarding the heart and renewing the mind. Jesus stripped Satan of all power (Colossians 2:15). The enemy’s primary weapon is in the art of suggestion. He plants subtle thoughts in your mind to doubt the promises of God. You may be experiencing a setback in your health, finances, or career but your mind (thoughts) must remain anchored in the Word of God. 2 Corinthians 2:11 says, “We are not ignorant of his (Satan’s) devices (schemes).” When your mind is fixed on Jesus, regardless as to what happens, you are fully persuaded what God has promised concerning you shall come to pass!

Connect to God

Take 5 minutes today to get quiet before the Lord in your prayer time. Allow His love to dominate your thought life. Expect to see the favor of God with you all day long.

Daily Devotional: Connect 40 – Day 4 – The Promise of Salvation

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love – Colossians 1:13 (NKJV)

Today’s Thought

God is in the business of transforming. He changes the ordinary to extraordinary, the unattractive to beautiful, and the unloved to the beloved. The primary way He does this is through Salvation. Salvation is a free gift given to all who believe in Jesus and His finished works. A gift infers you have received something you did not earn. In a performance-based society, where promotion and accolades are achieved, this concept of receiving for believing is unorthodox. It’s time to believe in the promises of God. Refuse to toil over what God has already given.

Connect to God

Throughout your day, continually remind yourself of who God, through Jesus, has created you to be. You are not ordinary, but you were created to be extraordinary! You have been chosen, protected, and saved as a child of God. So walk, talk, and act like it!
