21 Days of Prayer: Day 5 – Vessel

Categories: Principles,Stories

Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? I Corinthians 3:16 (NKJV)

One of the most amazing truths of the Christian life is that when we trust in Christ as our Savior, His Spirit takes up residence in us. He’s not just “out there” any longer. He’s living in us. In the same way that Christ stepped out of heaven and came to earth to communicate His love, forgiveness, and power to us, His Spirit steps into the life of each believer to impart wisdom, encouragement, and strength to us-every day. Always, He is literally as near as our breath. We are never alone.
Housing the Holy Spirit also brings responsibility. We represent the King of kings to every person we meet, and we are His ambassadors to those around us (2 Corinthians 5:20). Realizing we are God’s temple transforms our character into the image of Christ by causing us to become aware of what we think, say, do, and value.

Thought for the Day:

The Spirit of God resides on the inside of each believer to daily impart wisdom, encouragement, and strength.

Connect & Reflect:
  • What specific word or phrase from 1 Corinthians 3:16 stood out or spoke to you today?
  • As God’s temple, are there areas of your life that need to be remodeled? What is one step you can take today in that process?
  • How does knowing the Holy Spirit lives within inspire you? How does it challenge you?

Scripture References: Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; 2 Corinthians 5:17-20

Father, I seek to know You in a greater way.  Make my heart soft and pliable. To think that You want to use me, that You want Your glory to shine through me. What an awesome responsibility! Please help me to always walk worthy of what You have called me to do. Thank You for changing me into what You want me to be and for making me into the image of Your Son.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Conclude with Silence (2 minutes)

Dream Team and Small Groups

And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. I Corinthians 12:28 (NKJV)

Today’s Suggested Prayer Points:

  • Pray that God would send the right people with the right heart to fill all helps ministry needs within our church.

We are using daily prayer targets as a way to encourage our families to pray for their children each day during 21 Days of Prayer:

….he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
II Timothy2:21 (NKJV)
  • Vessel – Father, my heart’s prayer is that my child will know Your purpose for their life and will be used in a great way by You!  I believe they will have powerful testimonies and be salt & light to all people around them. I pray that they will walk closely with You and be vessels that honor You in all things. In the Name of Jesus, Amen!
