21 Days of Prayer: Day 19 – Generosity

Categories: Principles,Stories

Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. – Luke 6:38 (NKJV)

When you give with what looks to the world like reckless abandon, you are following God’s example. God is a giver. While we were yet sinners, God gave of His very best (His Son) for us to have eternal life (Romans 5:8). Generosity does for others what they cannot do for themselves. Love is the compelling force that moves people to give and place their trust in the Lord for the harvest.
We should give for the pure joy of imitating our wonderful Father. Generosity protects our hearts from becoming materialistic. It’s our hearts the Lord is concerned about. When our hearts are properly aligned to the leading of the Holy Spirit, we are more excited about giving to others than receiving.

Thought for the Day:

Generosity does for others what they cannot do for themselves.

Connect & Reflect:
  • What specific word or phrase from Luke 6:38 stood out or spoke to you today?
  • What excuses of people sometimes make for not being more generous with their resources (time, talent, treasure) toward others? What excuses have you made?
  • Are there at least 3 habits you can practice on a daily basis to maintain a generous spirit?

Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share. – I Timothy 6:18 (NKJV)

  • Generosity – Heavenly Father, I pray that my child holds on to the things they own loosely, allowing them to be generous and always willing to share. In the Name of Jesus, Amen!
